"We enjoyed very much our holiday in Trullo Olivia. We know Italy rather well but this part was a real discovery. We visited a lot of beautiful places with very helpful people and very few tourists; the beach at Lido San Stefano is beautiful. The trullo is a great home with everything you could want."

"We have had a great family holiday here at Trullo Olivia. Pretty, peaceful, private and located in a wonderful area. The trullo is very well appointed especially for cooks. We enjoyed eating lovely Italian food in as well as out. The children had a fabulous time playing in the pool after days out visiting all the local towns. All in all a great holiday. Many thanks to Jan & Bob and the team of people who look after Trullo Olivia."

Driver's Guide to Italy

Travelling is always better if you have a full control of your itinerary. Aside from the fact that you will have the freedom to choose your own schedule, you can also explore a whole lot more places. But a holiday is even better if you bring your own car. The convenience it can contribute is just amazing.

With this said, one of the best places in the world that is a perfect tour destination is Italy. Some may hesitate to bring their car to this glorious place because of the narrow roads and some misconceptions about the local drivers but actually, this is a great place to drive around. However, here are some things that you need to remember when visiting places while manoeuvring your vehicle:

  • First thing you must remember is that some of the locals can be aggressive drivers. So be prepared, alert, quick, and assertive. Just keep your eyes on the road, you hands on the steering wheel, and your feet on the pedals. Do not let panic rule you. Just keep calm and drive on.
  • Next is to be cautious of the speed limit. If you get caught over speeding, you will be charge with a big amount of cash on the spot. And also, do not drive when you are under the influence of alcohol. Not only is it dangerous, you will run the risk of having your license confiscated or worse, get arrested.
  • It is also advisable to study the map before you embark on your journey. At least get the idea of the whereabouts of your destination and familiarise landmarks to keep from getting lost.
  • Also, make sure you do the necessary check up before you leave. Check the breaks, gas, and coolants. Make sure your tyres have the right air pressure and make sure it is properly aligned. Just in case, always keep a tool box in your trunk.
  • Know the basics of the road rules and regulations of the place. And in this country here are some of the restrictions that you need to follow:

  • Fasten your seat belt all the time.
  • Children under 3 years old are not allowed in the car unless you have a safety seat that has been approved by the officials. Kids that are 4 years old and above should be seated at the back.
  • In case of emergency, always have a reflective safety vest with you when you stop at any major roads.
  • The numbers you must remember is 112 for emergencies and 116 for break downs.
  • Take note of the use of headlights: dipped if you are in all main roads and make sure it's in a full-beam when you are outside the city.

Now that you know the basics on getting around places in this lovely country, it is also ideal to get the best accommodation places to fully enjoy your vacation. You can check out the trullos featured on this site.
